What are emos?

how do I become an emo and what are the rUles I need to know becoming an emo?

I'm older, so to me this whole 'emo' movement is just another spin-off of the 'grunge' movement from the 90's. Grunge was about being emotional and creative and wearing what you wanted-emo is the same thing, just prettier and more whiny.

I think it's silly to want to 'become' anything or want to belong to any sort of group. If you want to wear black and write poetry, why do you have to classify yourself? Do what you want to do, dress how you want to, when someone asks you what you 'are,' answer 'me.' That's much more fulfilling than saying, 'I'm emo, that makes me an individual, just like thousands of others.' Search yourself for what you like, and expand upon that instead of joining a social clique. The more unique that you are, the more people will be attracted to you-people gravitate to individuals much more than any cookie-cutter subculture kid. (This is coming from a woman who grew up the only kid in all black in a tiny town in the Midwest, so take my word on it.)

The #1 rule on becoming emo is that there ARE NO FVCKING RULES!!...Lol, I guess I would call myself emo & I define it as living by your own rules, ignoring the haters,freely expressing your emotions...Emos do not sit around & slit their wrists while bawling their eyes out...No, that's just straight up suicidal lol...Just be your damn self & whoever got to problem wit it is sh1 outta luck boo!...It took me years & years to stop caring what people think of me, but I can finally proudly say that I've reached that goal. I wear black eyeliner & red lipstick & girls always hate on me & tease me about it...but you know what? THEY CAN GO SUCK A D1CK, because they aint doin no better than me

well you dont seem depress. emos become emos because they have family problems,depression, friend problems or anything. some cut them selfs or think about sucide for their pain, some writes poems or lyrics about their pain. emo=EMOtional.
just be yourself and dont be a follower it just ruins your personality. but if you want to be emo you can. I just telling you why they are emo and what emos are.

u cant just become emo ok...emos are just 'overemotional' or in some cases just plain depressed people...and lastly there arent any rules for being who you are

It doesn't matter how you dress. It doesn't matter how you look. All that matters is how you FEEL. If you are emotional and sad. If you are a dreamer and wish for things that give you a heart ache when you think of them because you don't think it is possible for you to get. THAT is emo. THAT is what we're about. NOT dressing black. It is not what we display ourselves as because that can always be a mask, covering up ouselves.
