Emo and scene

Shark Atack Asked by funadvice about 1 year ago, 11 answers.

So I've often wondered why it is that so many kids are calling themselves emo or scene now, along with dressing the part. I've asked a few and they say they like being different. Well my question being...since so many people are doing it now, wouldn't...

it be becoming more normal than different?

that's so true, quite a good point. I think loads of teenagers want to be different - maybe from their parents, but in the same time they want to be accepted by their friends, so they want to fit in.
I prefer Scene genre more then Emo, as it's more quirky, fun, and I love their clothes and hair.
There's few decent places where you can read more about Scene or Emo, what's it about, few good communities: http://www.soemo.co.uk/emo%20fashion.php

They are both just styles, that's pretty much it.
The 'emo' people like the dark looking stuff and the 'scene' like the random looking stuff.

As stephanie987 already said, they're both styles. There's more to being emo or scene than just looks... same with stuff like goth.

a7x...well if you're going to say that being emo involves cutting then I guess I was emo for years...took going off one night and leaving 217 cuts on my arms to make me stop...yes 217 actually have people you can ask if you don't believe me. But anyway the question isn't really getting answered...yes I know they're styles but why say you're doing it to be different when its become such a fad??

I think it depends where you are - I know that sounds weird.
But I live in a really small town where scene/emo is seen as 'different' because its not very popular, but if you went to some cities you'd think the style is considered normal. So I guess it's kind of hard to answer.

its just some kids trying to rebel but they are just buying into the evil corporate machine, ala goth kids in the 90's and early 2000's. one day they will look at pictures of themselves at that age and say whoa what was I thinking

its mostly just a sterotype
almost everyone when there young will want to be part of a sterotype or label
it a place for them to fit in
and catorgarizing each other is what almost evryone does
we catorgarize ourselves and other people for future referance
in a few more years, about 5, those labels wont matter anymore
and the kids will grow up
but for now, its jsust a part of everyday life
although the more something different is accepted, the less unique and origional it becomes

southernsixx - I NEVER said being emo involves cutting because it DOESN'T. That's just a f*cking lie some dumbass made up. You DON'T have to cut to be emo.
