Eliminate negative thoughts and feelings

make_invocation_to_God Asked by mouici 2 months ago, 9 answers.

According to my religion (Islam), the Satan was the most knowledgeable of his Lord but he was destroyed because of his pride and envy...
I recognize when someone gets something I wanted, I become envious.
Is it possible to get rid of these bad thoughts...

and feelings? How?

no it's impossible
being envious is a basic human feeling that you can't get rid of
and I believe I read a Hadith before about how people will not be judged by their thoughts
and having these thoughts doesn't make you a bad person the only thing that matters is how you act

Yes it is POSSIBLE to elliminate negative feelings and thoughts. I am a Christian myself and Romans 12 vs 2 talks about transformation of the mind and being not conformed to this world. I am sure this concept is shared with your religion as well. You just need to pray and focuson the positive things in your life. If the negatives are about a person, try to focus on the good things that person has done. Once again, let me be assertive and say IT IS POSSIBLE!

You will ALWAYS have to cope with negativity... you CANNOT eliminate it from your life. Treat each encounter as a method of personal improvement.

According to my faith (Christian) It's the HOly SPirits job to do that...metamorfosis...a change of mind...transformation...The Holy Spirit cannot live inside of believers unless Jesus died.

And yes I do notice how even the small things in life and how we react to them causes either our downfall or success.

I always felt like my life was a balance of all those...and I think it's the same with you Mouici...If I have something that most people don't have it's like there's something unfortunate in my life just to help me not to be too proud or feel like I got it all.

It's what the apostle Paul called thorn in my flesh...it turns out that despite of his huge knowledge on the law and a great passion to spread the gospel...he was terribly frail, weak, and ill man...three times he asked God to take it away but God said my grace is enough. He finally understood that this circumsance was allowed so that he wouldn't become too proud. As those were one of the notable characteristics of Pharisees or religious leaders back then..lol...today also I suppose.

And I think one can truly be free when one reacts to each circumstance the way God would have wantes us to...through that we obtain perfection.

So my opinion is It's not possible for us to COMPLETELY get rid of bad thoughts and feelings relying solely on will power but divine intervention is needed for a change of mind.

To marianna...
Destroyed here does not mean he was killed, the Satan still alive till the Day of Judgement.
In Islam worldview, Satan is a creature from the world of the Jinn (his Arabic name is Iblis). The Jinn are a creation of God made from FIRE. They are separate and different from both the Angels and mankind (The Angeles were created from light, Adam from dust).
The Jinn existed before Adam and Satan was the most righteous among them, he was elevated to a high position amongst the Angels.

“The Angels prostrated themselves all of them together. Except Satan, he refused to be among the prostrators. God said: ‘O Satan! What is your reason for not being among the prostrators? ‘Satan said: ‘I am not the one to prostrate myself to a human being, whom You created from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud.’ God said: ‘Then get out from Here for verily you are an outcast or cursed one. Verily the curse shall be upon you till the Day of Resurrection.’” (Quran 15:30-35)

So destruction here means:
1) He becomes arrogant and has disobeyed God despite he was righteous and obedient.
2) The curse is upon him till the Day of Judgement.
3) In the hereafter, he will be for ever in the hell among the looser.
