Effexor xr: should i take it again?

Loki Monster Asked by acidburn987 about 1 year ago, 4 answers.

Has anyone taken effexor XR? I took it for my bipolar, 375mg (I think that's what it was...) in the morning, lithium in the afternoon, and seroquel at night. this combination wrecked havoc on my health and body. I stopped taking it when I was about 18....

I'm 21 now, I've been seriously considering starting to take it again for my eating disorder, and mood swings. This is the one that really stabalized me. I just don't want to lose my hair li ke I did before (it was really really bad, like bald spots) but I'm not sure if it was effexor or the combination or all three or lithium...I seriously belive I need to start taking it again. though..I'm not sure it's worth it with all the side effects. could anyone help me from personal experience or anyone with medical knowledge have advice?
and no, I will not take alternatives like prozac, or abilify, etc. they do not work and they made me even worse. I kinda have no choice.

You should consult a dr. before you start taking it again. You mentioned something about hairloss, maybe talk to him about what side effects you experienced and he could have a better solution for you.

obviously I have to lol I can't take pills that are 3 years old, I'd probably die. I have to get a new prescription. the side effects are wide known, and are not pretty. but it's either relapse into eating disorder and go into manic rages or take the damn pill. it took me two years to start growing my hair back that's why I'm like uuugh I really don't want to but I might have to. I also said I don't want alternatives, it took me two years to get the right combo and settle with effexor, which helped immensely. that's the only one I want to resume taking, not the lithium or seroquel.

Tell your doctor. There should be alternatives.
As you know, an eating disorder can kill, as can bipolar conditions.
I wish you the best, and
Good Luck!!

It's been 3 years, they probably have alternative medications out by now, why dont you find out?
