Yes im pretty sure that they take a fee away from the final sale and profits. It should be under sellers terms and conditions.
I haven't sold anything from ebay however I do buy a lot and once I needed to cancel a sale and the seller emailed me asking if I could confirm this with ebay so she could get a reimbursement of the fee back from ebay she payed as part of the sale.

I got this direct off the ebay website...

What does it cost to sell on eBay?

eBay charges fees to list your item on the site. The cost depends on total of fees calculated based on the starting price, selling price, selling format, optional listing upgrades, category, and site. The eBay fee pages have tables to help you figure out how much it will cost you to sell your item.

If you are not familiar with eBay’s fee structure, reviewing a simple example will help you understand how to use the fees tables to calculate the cost of selling an item.

Insertion Fee - If you want to sell on item on eBay, you create a listing using the Sell Your Item form. When you list an item, you are charged an Insertion Fee for the listing. The Insertion Fee is based on what you decide is the Starting Price of your item or the Reserve Price if one is included. For example, you want to sell your Sony camera. You list it with a Starting Price of $60.00. The Insertion Fee would be $2.00 (from the table on the fee page).

Final Value Fee - If the item sells, you are charged a Final Value Fee. The Final Value Fee is based on the final amount the item sells for. The Final Value Fee does not include shipping costs. For example, your item sells for $153.00. Your Final Value Fee would be $6.67. This is calculated as follows: $2.19 (.0875 times $25.00) plus $4.48 (.035 times $128.00) for a total of $6.67.

yes, you do. you pay to list it, then when it sells, that money gets refunded and you just get charged a 'final fee' and this is dependent on how much it goes for..

I used to sell a lot on ebay..

you also pay different rates for normal sale, buy it now and best offers...

in addition to this, the amount you pay on your advert is determined by your starting bid, so if you put a start bid off 99p you only pay the base amount, but it goes up ...

also they charge you for a reserve, and the minimum reserve is £50...

you aslo get charged for putting your picture in a gallery, but you can have a piccy in the ad for free...but any additional photos have to be charged for, as does a frame, bold, or having your item as a 'featured ad'...

there are ways around paying for photos and frames etc, site like auctiva (that's who I use) are really good...

anything else? happy
