you might want to eat after. If your running and you just ate... you might vomit all over the place. It's best to ingest food after you work out.

You want to consume protein after a workout. Your body will absorb more protein just after a workout. (thats why many people drink protein shakes and creatine after a workout.)

Depends on the workout and your goals.

When I do a weight and/or aerobic workout early in the morning I don't eat before. I'm generally not hungry right after I wake up and I find that eating slows me down. I usually drink a cup or two of black coffee on the way to the gym and I eat a normal healthy breakfast afterword.

When I go on a milti-hour bike ride I generally eat before, durring, and after the ride. Back when I raced bicycles I liked soft chewey granola bars and half defizzed coke and half water (this was before the sports nutrition products we have today were out). The last few years I've been a fan of Clif bars but I just tried some Larabars and these are seriously good and just have a few ingredients instead of the long list of processed ingreedients on Clif bars. A little hard to find though (I've only seen them at a Vitamin Shoppe so far).

When I do weight or aerobic workouts at the gym after work I generally eat a snack on the way like an energy bar because by then it has been hours since lunch and I feel draggy without some extra carbs.

If you try to work out on an empty stomach, you're going to burn out real quick. Eat some carbs about an hour beforehand, try to avoid any refined sugars. Eat afterwards if you're hungry.

I agree with Sika, your body must obsorb an X amount of protein, usually about .06 per # you way. And I'd eat after a workout only cause I've found when you eat prior, you tend to have a much more sluggish workout. When you're done with your workout... eat a snickers to spike your blood sugar and to keep your metabolism high before you eat a meal. the main thing to remember when you're working out is you're creating tears and you want protein to enter while their torn to gain mass and the more mass with a consistent workout the more endurance you'll have. Hope it helped

After a workout because after a workout yur body needs food because you've been using a lot of energy.

Ha.. did that even make sense..
but anyhow.. it's better to eat after a workout.

As a bodybuilder, I find it's best to not worry about whether before or after, because then your food schedule starts following your workout schedule, which changes quite often. If you have it set, then great, that works too.

I generally eat 4-5 meals a day, so I always do before and after. The first 15 minutes I'm awake, I'll take a protein shake, just to get my day started. You're muscles are always repairing, especially while you sleep, so give your body what it needs; protein and carbs. Never workout without eating before... you'll find yourself doing a lot less then you would if your body has it's supply of energy. Workout in a time that is comfortable for you, but if you're tired, or starving, or both, you should do your workout later; it's a waste of time otherwise.
