Early labor

me and my baby Asked by aerochic102093 25 days ago, 2 answers.

My doctor told me today that if I were to deliver my baby would be just fine since I'm 34 weeks. anything I could do to bring on labor, besides sex, that wont hurt the baby?

Just because the doctor said it would be safe to deliver at 34 weeks doesn't mean you should attempt to make it happen...the safest place for your child right now is in the womb, and the longer he/she stays in there, the better the chances of having a healthy baby.

I had a child only 3 weeks early and because of that she had several medical problems in infancy.

Do your child a favour and hope that he/she holds out a little longer to give him/her the best possible chance.

I certainly hope you won't be this eager with every aspect of your child's life, or you'll find Child Welfare knocking on your door.

I completely agree with ichibanarky. I have 3 kids and my doctor pushed for me to get to at least 37 weeks. Before 37 weeks babies can have problems that doctors can't anticipate, their lungs are not even fully developed yet.

Keeping that baby inside of you is the safest and best solution. With my youngest child I had gestational diabetes and Toxemia (two conditions that sometimes make it impossible to carry to term). My doctor kept me in the hospital so I could get to at least 38 weeks before having her.

As for inducing labor on your own...there are a lot of myths but nothing works. And when your doctor said the baby would be just fine I'm sure he/she didn't mean that you should have the baby now. Your doctor probably just meant that your baby could survive if he/she was born now, although it would most likely survive in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for at least 1 month.
