Unless I misread this I dont think she said that she took the earring out. It usually does swell and become pretty painful for about 2 weeks after you get the cartiledge pierced. Its not like getting the lobes done at all..keep it clean and keep turning it. wash away any crusty stuff that might dry up on it gently and if you notice any pus then get it looked at.

keep the earring in and apply alcohol liberally at least twice a day. If it gets worse after two days, if it becomes inflamed, or if the pain is unbearable, go see your doctor. It could just be a little speck of dirt causing all that pain. Keep them as clean as possible.

your piercing isnt going to heal after just one week esp. a cartiliage. if you think its infected make sure you clean it 3 times a day with peroxide or rubbing alcohol. if there is any crusted on stuff on the back of your ear take it off and clean your ear. make sure you dont sleep on the side you got it pierced on too that can make it more painful. if it gets worse, take the earring out and let the hole close up and get it pierced again. it might be that you cant wear a specific type of metal or w/e in your ear.
