Stereotypes are stupid - just because he plays sports doesn't mean he cant have a certain hair style/hair colour. Clearly you aren't sure what he wants you to do, all you have to do is ask him what he wants done and do it if you can. If you aren't 100% positive you can do what he wants to it then get someone else to do it so you don't wreck his hair.

Dying short hair?
I've been doing my own hair for a while now, and I'm always putting different colors, and stuff in. I have 'scene' hair, but I'm dating a jock. He grew his hair out, so now it's really nice and flippy. He wants me to dye it for him, but I don't know what...
to do. He said he want's like mine, and I guess he just means scene, because I seriously doubt he wasnt a brown bottom layer, bleach blonde top, and a coon tail. But what colors and stuff should I do? Nothing to extreme, or he would look weird with his 'jock' friends, plus he has to follow dress code, a few color strips are okay, but I think he would like more natural colors. And not all black.
