Duh...

Asked by silverwings 12 months ago, 26 answers.

Do you find it very strange.. that some would think it odd... that Christians would share their beliefs... on a post that is called religious/spiritual ??? It is almost laughable... that some would oppose that... and call it shoving it down ones...

throat

The picture I have of one shoving.. it... down ones throat...

brings to mind... someone laying on the floor, prostrate...

and someone on top of them, choking them...

with one hand...

and taking bits of paper (scripture) and litterally shoveling it into their mouth...

Now.. that is what I would call;

shoving it down ones throat.

And I do not see that happening...

what I do see happening.. .is that Christians are standing up for what they believe in, and sharing it, in a way that anyone can understand what they are saying.

They do not interfere with any other religion, except to occasionally mention what the bible says about a particular religion, faith, etc.

They are decent, kind, considerate, and loving.

They offer the truth of the bible, to anyone who is willing to repent of their sins, and join them. They do not force anyone... to do anything.

Why does that bother you so???

You can speak your own faith, or lack of it...

so, why are we being discriminated against???

What happened to freedom speach???

Does that apply to anyone and everyone except Christians???

Oh.. and BTW... look to see exactly what the title of this column is that we are posting under.. if you don't mind.

Thanks... ...

just like you're free to make your claims, others are free to complain about your claims (and say you're irritating the heck out of them)... that is true freedom of speech silverwings... perhaps you dont understand what freedom of speech means... it means people are allowed to say what they want, and others are allowed to complain about it...

or are you simply playing the role of martyr and want sympathy for being persecuted? must be hard being part of a majority religion in your country...

YES, SOMEONE HAS THE GUTS TO TELL IT LIKE IT IS!!! I find it very very very VERY stupid that they think we are shovin it down their throats. girl I tottaly agree with you. they hate it b/c it makes them see the truth so they blast. I mean of course we are going to say our belief, when its questions bout OUR belief, I mean duhr!!! we as christians dont have a freedom of speach b/c we may offend someone, but they dont have brains to think that letting them others run wild and doing sexually things in public isn offending.

its a one thing to say your opinion and its another thing to be VERY disrespectful one. they dont have to agree, but they should be mature enough to have some respect.

Every religion tries to pressure followers in, its like a 20 year old trying to get a 12 year old naked, I've had Christians from FA alone FunMail me and tell me You need to seek Jesus! and Please think about Christianity I can help you become faithful!.

and Freedom of Speech is exactly as Ty said, Say what you want, but expect complaints.

the insulting is not (to a certain extent), although I personally dont care... (we have rules about being abusive on this site), saying that you're irritated however is ok... you want specifics you're going to have to talk to the site admin about the insulting bit

see that's the beauty of freedom of speech, I can say I think your beliefs are b.s. and that's ok... because I have freedom of speech... you cant preach at someone and tell them they're going to hell, and then restrict someone else's opinions of your opinion... because silverwings, no matter how much you believe you're spreading the truth, that's exactly how much everyone else has faith in their belief systems and in the truth of what they're saying (take a moment, I know it's a hard concept to grasp)

lish, no one's complaining about religion being discussed when religion is the topic... it's religion coming up when the subject wasnt religious... although I guess when one is religious and believes God is involved in everything it is hard to differentiate between what has religious relevance and what doesnt... like laws that demand seperation of church and state

Some of you missed the point! She was talking about people who complain about religious posters on questions that are in the Religion category.

This wasn't a free speech issue, it was an off-topic issue.

And also, too, to help you to know,

ah ethmer, it is obvious she's referring to this question http://www.funadvice.com/q/what_s_with_these_christians

and if you read the question, it does not distinguish between religious and non-religious questions...

I believe the poster was simply fed up with religion coming up in questions that were not related to religion

Silverwings, all posts to 'Religion Spirituality' are mixed into all of the general questions, and most people don't look at the catagory as they go through the questions.

I would like (and have suggested) that this catagory be kept separate (like the 'Love Relationships' catagory).

Said it before, if you don't want to hear about religion, don't read the religious postings, no matter if in general questions or not. Kinda difficult on a posting to shove it down one's throat. If religion enters another topic and you don't want to consider it. SKIP IT.

Girls ask about their periods, I skip it, not female, don't have anything to offer. I don't get my panties in a bunch because they are asking a question about something in which I have no interest or in depth knowledge.

On the RS section, I fully expect Christians and Muslims to shove it down my throat.

I think the complaint you are referring to was in regard to other sections. The Jesus zombies know no limits.

ty,

Absolutely!

Just don't troll the Religious Spirituality Section and complain about religious posters.

Don't want to read from zealots on either end, unless they've come up with some startling revelation either way.

The thing is, religious influence is not restricted to the Religion and Spirituality section. There are plenty of questions on here about pregnancy and alternative lifestyle which I've seen some rather appalling religiously-influenced responses. *That* is what I'm against.

They are decent, kind, considerate and loving.

You can't really say that about all Christians, nor claim it as a strictly Christian characteristic. I know plenty of people who are without religion and are the most kind and wonderful people I've ever met. I've also met some Christians who are judgemental, arrogant, pompous, manipulative and intollerent. Don't try claiming that because people of a certain way of life, they're all lovely. That's like me saying all children love reading.

America... is being lost... because we have been silent...

Ever read the US Constitution? You'll note in the first few ammendments, it seperates Church and State. Also, the Treaty of Tripoli states As the government of the US is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion... So, to put it in simple terms- America is not Christian!

To quote some lines from a man I strongly agree with, Jay Spears:

My Mammy baptised me you bet, I'm washed in the blood of the Lamb
But here's one thing I just don't get, who baptised Uncle Sam?
Some folks say the USA was Christian from the start
But was George Washington a Christian? NO!
Was Thomas Jefferson a Christian? NO!
John Adams? NO! Ben Franklin? NO!
Was Abe Lincoln a Christian? NO NO NO!
They separated Church and State which makes those Christians frown...

And later,

Is the US Government Islamic? NO!
Is it Buddhist? NO!
Hindu? NO!
Jewish? NO!
Catholic? NO!
Is the US Government Christian? NO NO NO!

Quit acting like it's just *your* country- It belongs to all religious groups and minorities who inhabit it.
