Drinking age

Asked by annonomus 8 months ago, 11 answers.

So I know there was talk going around about the drinking age being lowered to 18 instead of 21. Anyone know how that's going? Is it going to be passed or no? Or is it not known yet? And what are your thoughts on this... do you think it's a good or bad...

idea?

I think it SHOULD be 18, but I don't know... its hard to say what they'll do. I never thought they would decriminalize marijuana but its slowly becoming medicinal.. everything will change in time. hopefully for the better. and it def wouldn't hurt to lower the drinking age

Exactly. Making the age 21 doesn't help the drinking and driving rates or anything. There are a lot of teens who want to drink, but it's not like they'll ALL go completely crazy and be drunk 24/7. I'm a teen *17* and don't want to wait until I'm 21 to drink. I'd like to try some different alcoholic beverages! If 18 is the legal age for people to have a legal sexual relationship... then shouldn't we be allowed to drink too?

I think it should be lowered. I'll be 18 this year and want to drink, but it kinda sucks having to wait until your 21. Drinking isn't dangerous unless you don't do it responsibly. If your responsible and don't do stupid sh*t like drink and drive, it'll be fine. 18 is considered an adult to have a sexual relationship with people 18+ so it wouldn't hurt to lower the age. The rates of people killed by alcohol poisoning, drinking and driving, and stuff along those lines wouldn't be effect just because the drinking age was lowered - drinking and driving is a choice and alcohol poisoning doesn't have to happen. You just have to be responsible and if your going to be drinking, be at a home or at someone else's house or at least have a sober ride home. And youjust have to know when to stop and when enough is enough. We're not ALL idiots, some of us know how to drink responsibly and shouldn't be punished just because others a dumb.

alcohol isn't that harmless I think 21 is a good age, usually people are too immature at 18 to responsibly enjoy alcohol, and those few that do really stupid stuff mess it up for the ones that truly are responsible.

Not ALL 21+ year olds are respnsible either blerggher. Some people who are 18 are perfectly able to handle being able to drink legally. Just because we're young doesn't mean we're ALL immature. Some ADULTS *as in 30's, 40's, etc...* drink and drive and do stupid stuff. It's not JUST the young teens who are immature.

when did I say all 21+ year olds are responsible drinkers? I think you shouldn't be able to legally drink until you pass a test that can prove you won't be a dumbass while intoxicated, but we all know that will never happen.

It will not pass, all states have it at 21 in order to get federal funding for road programs.

The drinking age is determined by the states.

I think it should be kept at 21...a lot of maturing happens in those 3 years...not to mention, many high schoolers turn 18 while still in high school...it'd be darn hard to keep the drinking just to those who are 18.

As toadly said, tho...it's going to have to change, state by state...
