Dreaming about my ex-boyfriend

Off and on for the last few months I have been having recurring dreams about my ex-boyfriend. We were together for about 4 years and I broke things off mainly because he just didn't make me feel wanted or special or loved. Our relationship felt more...

like a best friend than anything intimate. He couldn't challenge me intellectually and opposed me going into the Peace Corps for mostly selfish reasons (he was going to miss me and refused to come and see me).

I have a new boyfriend who is such a wonderful man. He makes me feel completely loved and accepted and safe and secure. Just thinking of him makes me smile. It has been only 6 months and he is already making plans to come and see me when I am in the PC. I know that he loves me and I love him equally. It's a truly healthly relationship, however, I am plagued by dreams of my ex pretty often. In them, he says or does something that makes me feel bad about me or my body.

Last night in my dream, I saw him at someone's wedding. When I first saw him, my heart skipped a beat... I was excited. Then, he walks up to me and looks irritated. He asked why I am there and looks out the window to his current girlfriend who is arriving in a wheelchair. He tells me my hair looks terrible and walks away.

It may seem trivial, but in our relationship, I loved him unconditionally, however, he could not throw a compliment to save his life. He never criticized me either, but that seems to come out in my dreams. I think part of me is guilty and doesn't know if he's doing okay without me because I really supported him emotionally and in school and with his family. I think my subconscious won't let me stop caring and it's killing me!

Can someone tell me what's going on in my dreams? Why is this happening? Does it mean I am still in love with my ex because I don't feel like I am.
