Double canine extraction?

Asked by elana523 about 1 year ago, 6 answers.

okay, well, I have to have a procedure done called a double exposure, because for both of my canines, the adult teeth are impacted and cannot come out. as part of the procedure, I need my baby canines removed in the fall. I've had one tooth removed in...

the past and it was a moler and after the novacaine wore off it was sore but it wasnt terrible.
has anyone had one or two of their canines removed?
theyre the vampire pointy teeth in the top haha

I had both of my baby K9's taken out at age 27 and had oral surgery to have the brackets placed on my adult K9's that were still in my gum line (they were completely parallel). I'm now 29 and the Orthodontist is still trying to get my adult K9's in place...they're stubborn little guys!

The surgery to take out the baby K9's was a piece of cake, just like any other tooth removal; minimal pain and discomfort. BUT...The surgery to attach the brackets to my adult K9's? That's a whole different story! I pride myself on having an extremely high pain tolerance, and the pain I felt after that surgery was RIDICULOUS!! Because of the nature of the surgery, you will have 2 open holes in the roof of your mouth for about a month, and the first 2- 2 1/2 weeks following the surgery, it hurts to eat or drink anything! I had to resort to buying Atkins shakes and slamming them in one sitting (kind of how you'd chug a beer) just to get past the pain faster.

The oral surgeon will give you some form of narcotic pain reliever, and hopefully it'll work for you. But for me that stuff never works (an issue with my liver overprocessing), so I felt the full effect. I wouldn't wish that pain on my worst enemy!!...or would I? wink

Anyway, I hope I answered your question. If you need to know more, post back.

haha thanks, you just scared me a little!
but do you think that the pain may be different for each person, considering meds, doctor, and severity?

In all reality, you'll have an easier time, as long as pain relievers work for you. My problem is with my liver, it over-processes so I never get the full effect of the pills. It's pretty rare, so I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.
But like I said earlier, the removal of the baby K9's is going to be a piece of cake. The exposure of the adult K9's is where you're going to need the pain killers, but your oral surgeon will hook you up with some good stuff, so don't worry about that.
The only thing that I find annoying, is it takes a long time for your adult K9's to fall into place so it makes chewing a little more difficult. You never know how much you really use your K9's to rip into food (I.e. meat). But it's do-able.

If you have any other questions, I'm more than willing to talk with you at any time, and I'm curious to hear how your extraction goes. Write me back, and we'll keep in touch.

I hope all goes smoothly for you! It's definitely worth it!!

I just had my k9 removed yesterday they were at the top of my gumms and had to way to move down so she pulled them. I wont lie I have a high pain tolerence I had 3 kids naturally and I'll say this it freaking hurt! not when they pulled it but like afterwards I couldnt sleep last night and I'm having a lot of pain today bad! it's getting better but I have no clotting yet and it's hard to brush my teeth I have 4 stitches there to so it looks awful but she said it'll look great once it's healed! it's all worth it though!!!
