Do these symptoms mean my dog is blind?

I have a 16 year old dog, she does not walk without my help and has 3 legs. I don't want to take her to another vet. Is there any test I can do at home to see if she is blind or near to be. She seems to head in the wrong direction when we walk like the wrong side of the door opening, also jumps when I am in front of her and bend down to touch her face.

Hi.

The only way to know is to take the dog to the vet. You said you didn't want to, but that's part of the responsibility of having a dog. It may not be what you want to hear, but your doggie needs medical care.

Regards.

I have spent more money in vets than your worth. The vet isnt cause I am irrensponsible ass its cause there using me for $$$ you should know that and respect that unless you are a vet. Thanks for no advice

There is another way, you can give your dog an eye test take a dull flash lite and just see if the dog has a greyish haze in the black part of the eye or use your finger and see if it will follow the other possibility is that because of the age of the dog it could be that it had a minor stroke but dont jump to conclusions or be upset because I know how you feel some vets are ok but most vets will take you to be a fool. If I were you I would wait and see or depending on how long the dogs been doing this you might just have to take your furry friend to the vet ......Good Luck in finding an answer

nietolisa,

I was simply trying to help. Responding in that rude way is not going to get you anywhere.

If your vet is overcharging you, find a new vet! I'm getting my Masters in Public Administration to manage a shelter. So no, I'm not a vet, but close enough to tell you when you should take your dog to one.

Advanced cataracts are a leading cause of blindness in dogs and are generally recognizable by pet owners as a decrease in the dog's vision or by a cloudy film over the cornea. If your dog has no visual problems with his eye, it's probably a more serious problem.

Now that is a better response from you! If you read the question it said OTHER than taking my dog to a vet, I was looking for suggestions, you dont have to belittle me by saying I need to go to a vet after I mentioned I didnt want that advice. Maybe you should of thought it thru before answering on the fact she is 16 and a cancer survivor with 3 legs so I must know a little about how to take care of her. Do you have any surviving 16 + animals in your care? A vet isnt the only answer all the time. Trust me the dog isnt in any serious conditions or she would be dead already. I just wanted some home tests I could apply to testing if she is blind or seeing somewhat still.
