Does this mean he might like me?

Ok so I like this boy and I've liked him for a while. We became close friends and yesterday we were talking and he was helping me with something and was giving me advice about a friend. Before we became close he didn't really like talking to me as much and just didn't like to hang out. Now that were closer he does and we talk everyday. So I've been having troubles with one of my other close friends and he was helping me with it and I got really worried and he told me not to worry that he will always be there for me and that he will never let someone do anything bad to me. After that he wrote we as of now I want a girlfriend =] now I need to find out if they like me.
And that was really it.
Anybody got any idea?

I don't know the particular situation or how he feels, but it's obvious that you like the guy. :D It wouldn't hurt to ask
