There are actually very few peer-reviewed studies on this subject. There is quite a bit of anecdotal evidence that for some kids some foods may be problematic. Some parents have reported dramatic improvements in various behavior problems when certain foods were removed from their child's diet. Of course in cases like this it is possible that their kids may have gotten better for other reasons and the parents falsely attributed the improvement to their diet.

Yes, it does.

One notable study showed that Rhesus monkeys who were starved would smoke more crack cocaine when provided with the option.

Other studies have found:

-Food additives increase hyperactive behaviour in children
-The ketogenic diet causes a reversible decrease in activity level
-Artificial colors and additives can cause hyperkinesis

Hope that helps.
