Hi,
The tube of the alto flute is considerably thicker and longer than a C flute and requires more breath from the player. However, this gives it a greater dynamic presence in the bottom octave and a half of its range.
Size: It's size is very similar to the concert flute - just longer. Sometimes it has a curly headjoint (as attached to help reach the keys.
Pitch: It is tuned a 4th lower than the concert flute.
Sound: Quieter and more mellow than the concert flute.
Other: The alto flute is a transposing instrument. When it plays the sound comes out a 4th lower than the notes on the page.
the alto flute is much bigger than a normal one. You can play certain music for it but its not the same as the concert music, if you were to play concert music it would sound much lower. Its a peaceful instrument. I played alto flute for about a month for a camp I was at... it takes a lot of air so if you have it great! I really liked it. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Does anyone play alto flute?
