Hello - approach the situation with open eyes and a clear heart. Were you primarily at fault for the breakup? Why did your friends tell you not to trust him? Did he mistreat you? Why did you become clingy? LASTLY - Did he give you a reason to believe that he could not be trusted (to the extent in which you doubted his love for you), or were you just insecure and oversensitive? Look back at your relationship and ask yourself these questions. If he completely treated you with respect and love and all of his ACTIONS reflected this - then yes, I'd believe him. If you drove him off with your insecurities and suffocated the hell out of him, then you're NOT going to completely believe him even if he is telling the truth. So, your answer should be derived out of his actions...and whether he really did try to make you happy. If you conclude that he is indeed a good guy, you should find it pretty admirable that he'd call you and express his feelings for you. Hope this helps!
Personally I think that he's tellin the truth. A man ego smetimes get's in the way of there love life and they may feel breakin up or givin time apart is a better way to make there relationship a breather and to make it better. So I think that he's not using u and if so it's for your love and it's a good thing.
