I'm with Red, ask him out yourself. I was in the same postion not too long ago. Some guys are just really shy, especially when they know the girl likes him but they are worried about losing the friendship. Your best bet, openly flirt outragously with him when your together, call him sexy, handsome, even luv. See how he takes it. Make it light and not overly serious. If he digs it just open up and say, I've been waiting for you to ask me, but you know I'm impatient, will you go out with me? This worked wonders for me.
