Gelatin is a protein produced by partial hydrolysis of collagen extracted from the bones and connective tissues of animals such as the domesticated cattle, pigs and horses.

Gelatin is not vegetarian. Vegetarians often eat foods with geletain not knowing that there are animal products in it. Geletain is in Jello, marshmallows, peeps, and gummy bears. It is often added to ice cream to keep it from melting too quickly and to thicken yogurt, margarine, and preserves.

Vegetarian foods may substitue agar agar for geletain.

There was a bit of a scandal a few years ago when a brand of Vegan marshmallows turned out to use geletain.

There's also gelatin made from seaweed/kelp for some time now, and this should be okay for you as a vegetarian.

always check the back of the packet. in chocolate you find gelatine and in many sweets. If you look it up on the internet you will come across sweets and chocolates that are vegetarian. I know for sure that rowntrees jelly tots are vegetarian and cadburys; crunchie dairy milk, munchies are. They whole of galaxy produce is not!
