What is your definition of a ghost? Is it the same, or different than, a spirit?
You might want to begin there and define the two first...If you can. To some people, they are two different things. To other people, they are the very same thing. So, as a result, you may get quite a variety of answers to your question.
Ghost Hunters (International) has been gaining in popularity considerably in the past few years. For people who are not familiar with Ghost Hunters, you can most likely go to http://www.Hulu.com on the web and you will find episodes of their videos located there. (Just go to their search window and key in Ghost Hunters. They have full episcodes of their videos, each lasting some 40 minutes or so).
There are a lot of people who might agree that there are some really wierd things happening out there that cannot be easily explained. The Ghost Hunters main theme is to try and disprove what people feel are real hauntings of one kind or another. (They look for natural causes that give the same effects). I suppose that is why their popularity has grown so rapidly.
At this point in time, I don't believe that there are any scientific and/or conventional methods that are able to define this phenomeona beyond the shadow of a doubt.
So, what that will actually do, is simply dump the whole thing back into your lap to decide for yourself. You simply have to view as much information as you can about the subject and draw your own personal conclusions as to what you feel about it personally.
Along these same lines, you will find believers and non-believers. People who describe experiences in their lives that has happened to them, (or someone they know). And, people that absolutely nothing has happened to. In addition to that much, you may also encounter a wide variety of religious beliefs about the subject that will vary as much as people's personal opinions. ...so, you probably will not just get one solid answer...just a wide variety of people's opinions and experiences... or lack of experiences.
I have my own personal thoughts on the subject, but I don't care to try and influence you with what I personally believe. Instead, I might suggest that if you are serious in finding an answer to the question, you may consider approaching one (or all) of the following items and see where they lead you:
1). Sometime in your life, go visit a site that most people believe has a lot of
paranormal activity going on that you can witness first hand.
2). On Ghost Hunters, you can see where they are using EMF meters (along
with other sources such as infa-red cameras). These meters measure the
variance of electromagnetics in the immediate vicinity. The ghost hunters
understand that paranormal activity usually happens when the EMF readings
go up. (Sometimes when there are a lot of electrical wires in the vicinity).
Recent laboratory studies have placed a cap on a subjects head that was
wired in a laboratory. They have discovered that the EMF frequencies will
alter brain wave patterns in our heads. They can now create visions for people
in laboratories using different electrical impulses. (I located this information
using the software from http://www.Veoh.com, which is free, and doing a search
for EMF studies. The video that I viewed there did not give a web site address
to reference. It just simply showed a lady being wired up in a lab, and the
results that they obtained from the study).
3). Read as much as you can find about the subject, but be very cautious not to just
assume someone else's feelings about it. Gather as much concrete proof
as you can first ... and then make an intelligent decision on your own.
Above all, never be afraid to investigate the unknown, and/or step out of your comfort zone to learn new things. There is never any improvement without change, and knowledge gives us better understanding of the world that we live in.
:-)
I'm a Ghost Hunters fan and I am a Ghost Hunter. I've gotten an EVP once before and I've looked at all possible logical ways the sound would have came up but nothing I could think of made scense. This is what it was, it sounded like a chair move, a voice saying Moving on In a non human tone (It was REALLY weird), and then what sounded like a broom handle falling over. The place I was doing the EVP sweep was deserted for the night, no one was there, there was nothing that could make the noise of a chair or a broom handle, and the voice was so low and raspy I don't know how a normal human could make the noise.
So YES I believe in the paranormal
