That was a belief based on the Myan calender. Its not the first time that the Myan calender has made a full revolution. It just starts over again...

I think that's a scary question. People have been guessing when the world is going to end for decades, maybe centuries as well and all of the years they've guessed have passed without the world ending. I read about something to do with the sun being in the middle of it's life and when it burns out the earth won't survive so hopefully the world will last for billions of years to come when you think about your future generations even though we are constantly putting polution into the air and damaging the world

Apparently a lot of people do. A lot of bored, hysteria-prone dumb people. Answer this question; So what if it does? What is anyone going to do about it? If the 2012 theory is based on the Mayan calendar ending in that year, then it is a sealed deal. No one can resurrect an ancient Mayan and force them to add to their calendar, thus ensuring the 'prophecy' does not come true If it's based on global warming or a comet, or whatever other idea anyone can dream up, I guess we, as a human race will have to cross that bridge when we get to it. I don't believe the world itself will ever end, but there will come a day that this planet will no longer be able to support the life of our species and many other species like ours. It's pretty much inevitable. So should we sit around worrying about 2012 until it doesn't happen only to have another 'theory' terrify us about another end of the world date lurking in the near future? There's always going to be a terrifying end of the world date. Live your life for the right now and be at peace. No one is guaranteed to have a tomorrow.

No one with a modicum of intelligence believes the world is going to end in 2012. Only the same human being who believe in religions and daft superstitions. There's absolutely no credible EVIDENCE to suggest the world will end in 2012, therefore there is nothing to worry about.
