Do too many absenses from school have a punishment?

Asked by taurus14 8 months ago, 7 answers.

I've been away almost 200 days over the course of the school year. I am called in though, and given a good excuse. This whole year has been utter hell for me, it doesn't help it's my first year of highschool and I'm shy and anti-social. I've been...

constantly ill, depressed, and getting hurt. Every flu bug I've had has made me stay away from school for 1-3 weeks. My teachers must think I am some sort of stupid kid to miss so much. I still try to get good grades. I have A and Bs. My question though is can I or my parents be punished for my many absense?

I think if you miss too much school, they can get the school police on you and your parents can get in trouble. I'm not sure how many days you can miss before that though.

Uhhh yeah actually.
The school will send home letters to your parents and then phonecalls home to your parents, and the next thing you know you'll be in court in front of a judge trying to explain what's going on. I've had it happen to me before in the 8th grad I missed like 26 days in a row but I was back in school before I had to go to a judge.

You can be (I guess it depends on what country you are from). Over here if you have too poor an attendance record without proper justification, you can fail the year and even be expelled from the school. If you have proper excuses and are still able to pass your course, then you will not be punished. You can't be punished for being sick happy.

Yes and No because it depends on the area you live
in example: I live in a town where they are strick about education I missed about 150days out of the school year and I got put on PINS and almost got taken out my house!
whereas my cusin missed about the same amount of days but lives in brooklyn where there are many people to keep track of got nothing but a slap on the wrist as my mom would say
