Do rats make good pets?

Do rats make good pets? I hear they are really clever and clean. Also on the side, is there a good and bad breed of rat, and where in South Australia could I get some?

hehe I had 2 rats, but they died afew years ago sad they were my friends! lol god that makes me sound like a nigel..haha
anywho..I got them from my mums friend because she bred them and hand raised them so they didnt bite..well actually it was one rat then she had 1 baby rat..yeh odd..lol so yeh I ended up with 2 I loved them..they were nice friendly =]

They make great pets. I have had 2 of them. Make sure you get one that is small and still a baby so you can handle it and let it get used to you. When you buy an adult they sometimes bite because they arent used to you. They are very smart and love to explore. I dont know where you could buy one because I dont live in South Australia. Good luck!

They 're ok but they scratch and bite ,a mouse or a gerbil is better if you do like animals that dont hurt u ...

lol aligirl, rats are much less prone to bite and scratch then mice or gerbils. trust me, I had enough to know.

@192837 rats are very nice pets to have, be sure NOT to buy them at petstores, and if you buy, then buy at least two, rats are social animals and they will me miserable on their own. Buy them from a breeder, there are plenty good ones to find. actually down-under rats live longer then european rats, so you're even in the right part of the world happy

I had a rat. and I love him and he was realy nice make sure you pick one out that doesnt bite!! hah. but umm I dunno where you could get some, pet store?

my teacher screamed one day and we found that she was screaming cus she found two rats in her room (classroom), and they finally got them without killing them and she realeased them into the woods behind our school lol funny :-)

I think that rats make wonderful pets. And as long as you clean the cage often, they dont stink or anything. They are very sweet. And will run up and down you or just cuddle with you.

I have a phobia of rats (real bad ) and to be honest I hate them lol.
But my friend had them and she says they are extremely friendly , intelligent , and very clean.
