Do I Need another device behind a BRIDGE?

1) I have a wifi router/accesspoint downstairs ---
2) a bridge device on the middlefloor ---
3) but when I sit with my laptop on the attic it connects to the device downstairs instead of the bridge

---> how can I make it connect via the bridge? (the bridge is associated with the wifi network and has been given an ip via the router)

Your wireless access point or "bridge" should have a way to set it from the laptop. Read the bottom of the device to see if there is a local ip that you can directly browse into with your internet browser like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 . You don't need another device and I assume that you are trying to increase your signal strength by adding this device in your network. Your connection wizard should also detect the device. If it is not then make sure that you are using the proper encryption keys, all the connections are working, etc. What brands of devices are you using? If you funmail me I might be able to figure it out for you.

You might want to move your AP right in the middle of your house. This way you get equal distribution of the signal across the house so you won't need a bridge.
