Do i have a yeast infection??

Asked by tequila09 over 3 years ago, 22 answers.

Um okay. I think I might have a yeast infection or something.. I dunno that's why I'm asking. I haven't told anyone, I'm like 16 and I've had my period but it's not regular yet so things that I've looked up have said that you get like white discharge...

when your period isn't regular..
But well I'm getting discharge so I usually wear a liner so that I don't ruin all my panties but like this problem is on and off and sometimes it's clear stuff and sometimes it's off white. It feels gross but I don't know what to do about it...I don't want to see a doctor and I don't think anyone I trust to talk about it (such as my mom) would be able to help. I heard you shouldn't take the medication unless your sure about it and I've also heard that sometimes it smells like modly bread or something and I dunno but sometimes I think I smell it...
Also yes there is some itching...

The symptoms of vaginal yeast infection include:

Vaginal itching that is often severe.
Vaginal discharge that is usually white, curd-like, and usually ODOURLESS (or the same odour as usual).
Red, irritated skin around the opening to the vagina (labia).
Pain while urinating when urine touches irritated skin.
Pain in the vagina during sexual intercourse.

Vaginal yeast infections often clear up on their own without treatment, usually when menstruation begins. Menstrual blood raises the vaginal pH, causing the number of yeast cells to decrease because they can't grow in the pH present during menstruation.

Call your health professional for an appointment within 1 week if you:

Develop an unusual vaginal discharge, and this is the first time you have had an infection that might be a vaginal yeast infection.
Have unusual vaginal itching.
Have pain during sex or urination.
Develop any other symptoms that may indicate a vaginal infection.
Continue to have symptoms despite home treatment with a non-prescription medication.
Have symptoms return within 2 months, and you have not been taking antibiotics.

Also, Normal vaginal discharge:

Does not smell bad. (Though it has a smell, which varies from girl to girl)
Is not accompanied by pain, itching, burning, or redness.
Varies with age, menstrual cycle, pregnancy, and use of birth control pills.
A change in your normal vaginal discharge may be a symptom of a vaginal infection.

Teenage girls may have a large amount of a watery discharge caused by high hormone levels during the teen years or by taking birth control pills. Discharge from the vagina is normal, and your symptoms do not sound severe, but take a look at the info I have given. Other causes could be:Infections of the vagina, such as bacterial vaginosis, trichomoniasis, human papillomavirus (HPV), or herpes. All usually occur with obvious symptoms.

This is just general advice on the topics pertaining to your question, and do not constitute official medical advice. What you do with this knowledge is up to you.

If in doubt, see a doctor. I understand feeling uncomfortable with this sort of thing. That is why I left my male familly doctor at the age of 14 and found a female one for myself.

As a side note, I remember my first (and thankfully, only) yeast infection. The most notable thing about it was the consistency. It was lumpy. People say cottage cheese, I found it to be more like cream of wheat. Ew, GROSS!!! I will never eat that stuff again!

to know more about yeast infections try this page:

it's great and even has natural ways of fighting off the infection but in the end you should really find a gynocologist (a woman usualy makes us feel more confortable) and have a chat.

what you are discribing seems normal. If it you have itching and burning thats when you should worry. Discharge is different throughout your cycle because of hormone changes. It could be caused by too tight of clothing or It could be the type of soap you are using. You really shouldn't wash down there with much soap. Warm water and genital massage should clean the area fine. You vagina has it's own kind of eco-system and it can be upset easily. A yeast infection is caused when bad bacteria overwhelms the good bacteria in your vagina... many things including diet could cause this to happen. Try some over the counter treatments and if it doesn't go away see a doctor.

you don't need to be having sex to get a yeast infection {thrush} washing with soap or wearing to tight fitting clothes will cause the natural bacteria in the virgina to multiply this is what causes thrush you will need to use canestan cream for the itching and canestan tablets for the internal infection {treat you partner too if you are having sex} you can buy these over the counter or get prescription from your doctor

Ok does it itch and burn? And is it really uncomfortable? If it is its probably a yeast infections, you can get one from tight clothing, and underwear, even during sex... well if you have a yest infections drink a lot of cranberry juice if you cant afford da medicine, but if you can afford it buy da medicine over the counter and drink a lot of cranberry juice, it helps a lot, I know because I been through that horrible faze of a yyeast infection...

Another thing, everytime I drink something I have to go and wee in the next 5 minitues. its really annoying and uncomfortable for me. BUY MONISTAT YOU CAN GET IT OVER THE COUNTER. ITS A QUICK FIX TILL YOU CAN GET TO A DR. BUT GET THE ONE TIME USE ONE. IT COMES WITH A BIG PILL LIKE THING AND YOU INSERT IT INTO YOUR VAG LIKE A TAMPON. (PLEASE DONT EAT IT) YOU WILL HAVE a lot OF DISCHARGE BUT USE A PAD DONT USE A TAMPON. YOU NEED TO GET THIS INFECTION FLUSHED OUT. AND IF IT ISNT AN INFECTION WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO LOOSE. =)

4 months after I had my first baby I had a yeast infection it was a really bad experience it lasted for a month ...I had medication ..and went away but now I'm starting to get itchy all over again and dry ...em I getting a yeast infection again??? please help

Answered by jennocide on Aug 10, 2009, 09:19AM

Yeast infections usually start with a slight tickly/itchy feeling in the vag, that's one subtle clue that a yeast is a brewing. You might also notice some thick white creamy looking discharge right off the bat or it may take a few days to develop. Once a yeast infection is in full swing you'll notice that your vulva and/or vagina is swollen and itchy. This is what a yeast infection is like. If you aren't having multiple sex partners and you're noticing these types of changes then you can pretty well assume that you have a yeast infection. Keep your lady parts as clean and dry as you can, wear loose cotton underwear, and try over the counter monistat one day treatment, the kind that comes with the external vulvular creme as well as the vaginal suppository. The creme will help keep you comfortable. I would like to mention, however, that if you have had new or multiple sexual partners and are experiencing symptoms comparable to those that one would have with a yeast infection you should go see a doctor right away. Or, if you try the over the counter treatmeents without success you should go see a doctor ASAP. Yeast infections often have the same symptoms as some STDs and only your doc. can tell the difference.

Yeast infections affect 70% of women at some point in their life. Natural yeast infection remedies are the best, try to avoid antibiotics if you can. http://www.yeastinfectionremediesguide.com has information about the causes and symptoms of yeast infections as well.
