There was a recent Dateline or 20/20 episode about it. It's quite controversial. Some people on the show had kids who were shorter than average, and paid for them to get shots to grow taller. In both of the children they profiled, they did grow a significant amount after giving themselves these shots. They both had a deficiency in growth hormone, so it helped.
However, it's controversial because some people believe you should just let nature be, and the kids will grow at their own pace on their own time. Also, long term affects of the hormone haven't been studied. It's also extremely expensive, one of the father's said a single vial was $1,000...
