Desktop hangs quiet often

I hv a desktop - E machine Model No T 2885, which I ve been using sinceApril 2004. During the recent past ( 3 months atleast) suddenly the system hangs when you restart after some necessary software downloads. It hangs at the stage of the screen...

showing Intel inside forcing me to power shutdown the system by switching off the Power line. However when youagain switch on the powerline the system does not hang . I hv Windows XP as OS, with 80 GB Harddisk and 768 MB. RAM. The speed is 2.8 Ghz. Can some one thro some light in troubleshooting

I had that problem as well with an older emachines computer, what I found was that for a few years, they had problems with their hard drives going bad. From your description, it sounds like you need to replace the hard disk as well, because it's not a windows issue until windows actually boots up.
