Depression

music is a world within itself. Asked by onlybreathemusic about 1 year ago, 12 answers.

I've been depressed for 10 months now,
And I'm really sick of it.

I'm not going to end my life, which is ultimately stupid, I know this.

But what are ways to help fix this? Other than talk to your parents, friends, therapist.
Because I've talked...

myself blue in the face.

And dont recommend any take anti-depressants bs, because I'm not artificially fixing this..

Please, just help me..

Yeah, those first answers were no help whatsoever.

First of all, congratulations for admitting that you need help in this. It sounds like you've had some not-so-great attempts at help in the past.

Yes, talking is a good thing to do. Keep doing it, whether you feel it's helping or not. Trust me, it'll keep you from trying more drastic things like drugs or suicide.

I understand your reluctance to take antidepressants. They would most likely help, but if you don't want to go on prescription meds, that's okay. So you can look into natural remedies. It sounds weird, but they often work. You just have to find the one that works for you.

Ultimately, you'll have to get yourself better. I don't mean that you can one day decide I'm not depressed anymore. I know it doesn't work like that. But you need to stay positive as much as you can. And let help come as it comes-don't resist the healing.

smoke some freakin weed lol. It'll cheer you up. and I kind of agree with curly, in the sense that life is what you make it. There's a book, it's called the secret. You oughta read it, it may change your life. It's on DVD too, exactly how it is in the book, if you don't like to read. Sooo Go pick up the book or the DVD and a couple of blunts, kick back and cheer up lol, if you need to talk funmail me

you know, I have gone through this and still do. I get overly upset about a lot of things and get very depressed for a long time. it still happens but the best way I have found to help it is by finding some things that I love to do and sticking with them. I love wrestling, so I do that along with other exercises for 1 hr each day also eating healthy can change your attitude entirely. also maybe try drawing or reading...writing...playing an instrument. Most importantly remember you are a very great person and people love you. and if nothing else helps them maybe take a look at your personal life and make sure you are doing things that make you happy, not just things to make you fit in. just be yourself and everything else will fall into place. sorry for the long post. feel better sweetie!

TRY WRITING IN A JOURNAL, THEN GO BACK EVERY WEEK AND READ IT. SOON YOU MAY SEE WHATS MAKING YOU FEEL DEPRESSED. IS YOUR ROOM MESSY OR CROWDED? BELIEVE IT OR NOT, YOUR ROOM CAN EFFECT HOW YOU FEEL. IT HAPPENED TO ME. WHATCH WHAT YOU EAT. KEEP A FOOD DIARY AND WATCH ANYTHING YOUR EATING DIFFERENTLY AND ELIMINATE IT. THAT REALLY MAY HELP TOO. I KNOW A LOT ABOUT THIS TOPIC. you CN EMAIL ME IF THOSE SUGGESTIONS DONT WORK. THEY MAY SOUND DUMB, BUT THEY CN HELP.

Then you need a new therapist...

Therapy, ok the right therapy, is not simply about talking to someone about your problems. That's what your friends and family are for... Your therapist is not your friend. There are a couple of things when it comes to most cases of depression, (my brain's drawing a blank on the technical terms) but basically errors in thinking (life sucks, I'm worthless, etc etc) and behaviors that reinforce the thinking...
Cognitive behavioral therapy helps you identify and change distorted thinking and it has someone monitor the behaviors and help you change the behaviors that make the thinking worse and keep the thoughts in place...

I dont blame your reluctance for medication... I refused to take it too, and if your therapist keeps pushing it, then maybe you should find someone else... There are therapists who will not insist on it unless the depression is debilitating and the person has completely shut down and isnt functioning...

Find something you really really absolutely have a passion for and live it out to the full. I went through depression and I round it was racing motorcycles at the track. now I (try to) live that passion. Passion for something was my cure.

Do NOT turn to alcohol/drugs thats what I did and during the time I wan drunk/hi I was great!!! but then it goes downhill again, deeper than before so stay away from that sh*t!!

If someone (Freshmrcurly) just is a wanker about it then picture their head as a water melon and bonk em on the head. Hard. lol!

Welcome to Fun Advice!

I would assume that you haven't been forthright with those that you have talked to. This is understandable, though not desireable. Accordingly:

Fun Mail a sounding board!

I would assume that you can't talk about what you are going through with anyone because it is too personal and you don't want others to know about it in relation to you.

The solution, then, might be to pick someone on Fun Advice whose advice you like and Fun Mail them. (You can check out the quality of someone's advice by clicking on their name; going down to their recent advice, click on view all, then click on the questions that might interest you and view their answers.) Explain to them that you are having problems and want to have someone to use as a sounding board and would like to know if they would be willing to be your sounding board. Fun Mail is basically private, so you shouldn't have any concerns about about your privacy.

Although there are many users on Fun Advice who would be qualified, I'd suggest the person be an Advisor, for two reasons: First, most Advisors have several hundred or even thousands of Answers under their belt which can really give you a perspective about them; and second, you can simply click on the Advisors link at the top of the page and view a list of the most recently active Advisors with information about them AND a total of their Answers. (Don't contact them by that Ask me a question link. That's public. Instead, click on their name which will take you to their Profile page, then click on the Send me Fun Mail link on the left side of the page.)

You also have the ability to Fun Mail anyone (Advisor or otherwise) by clicking on the Send me Fun Mail link near the top of the Answer under the person's name.

You are at an age where hormones, emotions and even your brain are undergoing strong changes. It is natural to occasionally feel confused or depressed.

The best thing you can do is to talk to a counselor or therapist. Barring that, find someone you can communicate your emotions and thoughts with, sort of like a sounding board. Keeping your thoughts to yourself doesn't help.

how could anyone recomend anti depressants and be against marijuanna as a medicine?!? My gramma was on antidepressants, she didn't like em so she just stopped takin em, she got real sick and had to start takin em again immediatly, she then had to ween herself off of the drug, I think it was paxil, though I'm not sure, and it ended up takin her almost a half a year to get off of this drug that she felt horrible on.. Perscription drugs are way more dangerous than smokin a bowl or 2 to ease your stress level. I've heard plenty of similar cases like my grammas with all sorts of different drugs, plus think of the side effects... Some perscription drugs lead to death. My best friends mom was on weightloss medicine.. PERSCRIBED by a DOCTOR, and she's now suffering cardio and resiritory problems and visits the hospital at least monthly if not more, she's been real sick for a long time. The only time I really recomend doctor perscribed drugs is like, for something where you HAVE to have the medicine, like asthma or high blood pressure or something. Perscription drugs are also HIGHLY addictive, and like I said before, some of em, you can't just quit... Think about that... Mary Jane has been used for many medical causes ranging from pain releif, to mental stability, to stress releif, and plenty more. It even helps people with ADD/ADHD and other brain disorders. Do a little research, check it out.. If you're still not comfortable, more power to you, The other suggestions like changing your diet, excersize, and a journal... those are all great ideas that will definatly help.. ESP the journal or art or poetry... You've got these emotions just BUILT UP inside of you, if you find a way to release them, like writing them down, or a poem, or maybe even a punching bag... once you release these thoughts from your mind you're on your way to living a happier life...

thanks every who has attempted at helping me, the one's who just told me to suck it up or do drugs- I'm sorry, but your solutions weren't very helpful.

the only set backs are that I already keep a journal.
I love to write and I do it fairly often. I write poetry non-stop and I'm also writing a book.
[yes, I know, I'm only 15 but who said I can't write a book?]
I also love to read and draw, and also do both frequently.

but the depression stays.

for any following suggestions, please, don't recommend drugs, alcohol, or anything that is only going to fix things artificially. I don't want this. they don't actually solve the problem, they just try to cover them and store them away. this isn't going to help me in the long run, and isn't worth wasting my time on.

also, I previously was a cutter. I don't do that anymore, and haven't sense march. I don't need you to tell me that omg, that's stupid. because, honestly, it's not. it's a mistake, yes. but it's what used to work for me. I dont even really like the idea of sharing that with an audience, but I would just like some of you to know that so you don't think I'm just pulling some oh woe is me, my life is horrible and there's nothing I can do, boo hoo hoo story. because, in all honesty, I'm not looking for anyone's pity or sympathy.

I'm simply looking for answers.
