Well technically all of your hair is 'dead' but I assume you're referring to dry, damaged hair and split ends.
The only 'cure' is cutting it.

Split ends occur when hair is repeatedly damaged over a period of time.
Ends of long hair have been subjected to months (sometimes years) of recurring assault—like high heat from styling tools, sun exposure, chemicals in pools, salt in oceans, hair dyes, perms, hairbrushes, and more.
All of these things chip away at the cuticle, the protective outer layer of the hair.
When the cuticle is finally worn down, it is irreplaceable.
You can't mend it or put it back together, and there are no hair-care products that can undo damage.
What you can do is reduce how often you get your hair dyed or permed, and brush your hair as infrequently as possible.
If you can manage, don't use the high-heat setting on your blow dryer or flatiron (though be aware that high heat does help control hair better), and keep hair out of the sun. Beyond that, the only way to deal with split ends when they appear is to cut them off.
When you have and wish to maintain healthy, long hair, a good general rule is to have the ends trimmed every 4-6 weeks.
These trims will eliminate any new split ends and keep your long hair looking beautiful.

Do not use oil! My hair stylist told me it actually dries out your hair even more, plus, it's very hard to get out. Dove Damage Therapy Shampoo and Conditioner works miracles. It works about after a week, and keeps your hair shiny and smooth. Another product to use for smoothness would be Aussie 3-Minute Miracle Sydney Smooth Treatment. It has Balm mint in it, and provides sleek, smooth, flawless hair after the first use. It's priced around $2.97 at local drugstores. Hope this helps!
