dating you are free to see other people and it's not a problem. You only go out on dates and hang out.. No strings attached type of thing.

I think one implies something that hasnt been going on as long, is more casual, less commited...

dateing is not as commited as going out ... if you are dateing you can see other people without doing anything wrong ...
