Cute little mouse

Asked by fau 4 days ago, 5 answers.

I found my puppy playing with something, by the time I cought up with her I found that she had been playing with a young field mouse. its still breathing and it moves acasionally(not twitching). I want to save it, and I want to know if there is anything I can do. he has been in a state of shock for about an hour and 1/2. I just dont have the consious to kill it.

let the mouse get alittle air. Eventually it will come to it's senses and scurry along. If you live on a farm (as I do) put it out side next to a tree with some cover around it. or under a bush. if it's hot outside make sure you move the mouse to a shady spot, if it's cold...um... move it to your attic and let it live with you

are you sure it is not a shrew? kind of a long flexible nose and a short tail?
I would turn it loose and let nature take its course.
some shrews have toxic saliva- nothing that would hurt a human or a dog or cat, by any means- just let it go.

Yeh if it is in shock then the more you look at it etc the more likely it will kick the bucket. I think you should put it into a tissue box in a quiet spot on your property and if it is ok after a couple of hours go check it and I guarantee it will be gone. Or dead either way just let it do its natural thing. It sucks though I know.

Put out in a place where it won't be vulnerble to a cat or another preditor...if it lives, it lives...if it doesn't then there were internal injuries too serious for it to overcome. Everytime it may start to come out of shock and sees this giant human staring at it, fear would easily set back a few steps.

You also don't know if this mouse hasn't been poisoned...like the neighbors may well set out bait... (that would answer HOW your puppy actually caught it in the first place)...so make sure you don't put it in a place where your pup or another animal might get to it. Dead poisoned mice are toxic to anything that might decide to eat it.

I took one from my cats mouth 2 years ago and it was in shock but I put it in a hamster cage and the next day it was fine.I held it and it never bit me I called my family's vet and he told me to keep it since I kinda tamed it and to feed it wild mice feed.So I did and it lived 2 years w/ me.It was even more grateful and nicer than my pet store mice lol.
