Certain types of odours can give a good idea what is going on down below.

Contrary to popular belief, a yeast infection (also known as Candidiasis or Thrush) on its own usually smells more like fresh baked bread. Yeast infections are the second ost common vaginal infection.

If it is a sort of strong fishy smell, it is usually Bacterial vaginosis (BV): This is the most common vaginal infection.

BV occurs mainly in sexually active women but may also affect virgins too. It is not generally thought to be sexually transmitted although sex can increase the problem.

BV is not caused by a single bacterium (germ). In BV, an 'overgrowth' of various bacteria occurs in the vagina.

BV is NOT caused by poor hygiene. In fact, excessive washing of the vagina may alter the normal balance of bacteria in the vagina, which may make BV more likely to develop.

Patients usually complain of increased creamish, whitish thin vaginal
discharge which smells like fish especially after sexual intercourse. They
may also itch and have irritation at the vulva, the entrance of the vagina.

About 1 in 3 women have BV at some time in their life. It may be much more common than this as up to 50% of cases are mild and cause no symptoms.

Treatment is via a course of metronidazole tablets. (An antibiotic.) It sucessfully clears BV in most cases.

IWhatever the problem may be, if in doubt, please see your doctor asap as most problems like this can be easily treated. Also, your doc would have already sen 100's of patients with similar problems so no need to be embarrassed.

Just to clarify,
You dont need to have had ANY kind of sexual contact with anyone to get BV or a yeast infection.

Also, nearly every woman will get one of these at least once in their lives.

You can easily get treatment but unfortunately, a very small % of women tend to get these problems reoccuring.

See your doc and get everything sorted out.

You will feel on top of the world!
