Cunning mccain

VILLA! Asked by leevan about 1 year ago, 8 answers.

I just realised that McCain is incredibly clever, even though I still dont like him.

He picked Sarah Palin in order to gain the votes of American women (esp. Hillary supporters), but in a subtle way such that he wouldn't be blamed for being sexist or...

anything.

By picking Palin, McCain KNEW that the media would attack and scrutinise her, just like they do for Obama, Biden or McCain himself. McCain thus chose to leverage on the fact that his running mate was a woman to protest that the American media was sexist and treating Palin unfairly, even though it happens to every single presidential and vice-presidential candidate in the US, thus gaining the votes of millions of angry American women who are angered by the ALLEGED sexism in the media.

Opinions?

but its a bit hypocritical, no?

McCain says that he puts his country first...this is not putting his country first, its about him putting the election first

Nothing wrong with giving a woman a chance, plus it would enhace your prospects for victory in the race - if you're not 'in it to win it', you shouldn't be there - he got icing on the cake with this strong, competent, accomplished, person of integrity.

There's no such thing as 'fair' in politics. They're all in it to win, and if they *can* fool the refs (us) they will.

The only presidential candidate in the last 20 years who put no thought into his VP selection was Ross Perot. Everyone else has picked a vice president because he or she appeals in some way to some group of people, or because they stand to gain politically in some way from the pick.

I've often wondered if we should go back to the days when the loser of the election became vice president. Of course, people didn't really campaign in those days, either...how great would that be.

I doubt if you watched her speech at the Republican convention. Accordingly, here is a link to both video and text of her speech:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/03/sarah-palin-rnc-conventio_n_123703.html

If you take the time to view the video and/or read her speech, you may come to realize that she wasn't chosen because of her appeal to women voters. That is just an added benefit.

She was chosen because she is an outsider; is intelligent; has executive experience; is a proponent of change; and compliments the ideals and goals of Senator McCain.

What's that??? Politicians and their rhetoric is unfair...hypocritical...cunning...picking on candidates??? Smoke screens, distortion, finger pointing, trickery, and out and out dishonesty... Ain't that the way all elections are done???

Palin is the first politician I've seen in 40 years, who's integrety takes priotity over her politics...Refreshing, to say the least! Her appeal isn't just towards women (I wouldn't vote for someone JUST BECAUSE they were female)...her appeal is to the mainstream Americans...the ones who are out of college, working, paying taxes, with families to raise, houses to pay for, or retirement staring them in the face...living on middle incomes, somewhere between the left coast and the other coast...Middle America...

I at first misread the title of the question. I thought McCain was calling his wife foul names again.

I agree that accusations of sexism are welcomed and definately part of the equasion in picking a candidate with a complete lack of qualifications, or integrity. She is nothing but a hired gun, or should I say a hired pit bull with lipstick. They think that because she is woman, that they can deflect legitimate criticism by claiming sexism. It will only work with the most rabid conservatives. Most voters will see right through this nonsense.
