No...
Who should I blame if I weigh 200 pounds? What are the options?
America - for allowing fast food into the country (irrelevant, since I'm Canadian)?
Restaurants - for making crappy food so easily accessible?
My parents - for not teaching me better nutrition?
Myself - for not having the discipline to make proper choices regarding food and exercise?
I think the truth is evident...we are solely responsible for our OWN actions...nobody else can take the blame for our faults.
There's more people to blame then just america . . .
The fast food places, they make food very easy, cheap and convenient, I mean other then the health issues fast food is perfect - easy, fast, cheap it's got everything and of course a load of health problems.
Then there's the government - why didn't they put rules in before, like it has to cost more so it's not so convenient or something like that. But then why should the government look out for our eating . . . don't they have bigger problems . . . .
I agree with ichibanarky 100% it's mainl down to us - the foods just too convenient and we can't help ourselves . . . .
xD
Yes, we do have control, and yes, we're all individuals.
But in the same way that governments exploit the poor with the selling of lottery tickets, I do think large corporations shoulder some responsibility for indoctrination as far as advertising and promoting unhealthy and fattening snacks which are available at a fraction of the price of healthy foods. Indoctrination? Yes. Most children are plonked in front of the TV and shown fast food commercials before they can even speak.
We're growing accustomed to a fast convenient lifestyle, longer working hours, less time to prepare meals, less money, and McDonalds is right across the road with the wrong kinds of fats and the wrong kinds of additives. Inexpensive and completely accessible. And their number one goal is healthy profits, not healthy people.
The answer lies in education of people, though, and not legislation of corporations.
