We had this issue with our baby, and the doctor prescribed some other things (suppository if it gets serious, etc)...you do need a new doctor. A lot of community clinics will have an ask a nurse line that you can call. I remember using the one from our local clinic at least once every three weeks for my first son.
When this would happen to my daughter, I was told to start by putting petroleum jelly on a thermometer and put just the tip of it up her little bum. But be sure to put a mat under your baby while you do it because sometimes it can cause a bowel movement. When that wouldn't work I gave her a half ounce of baby apple juice mixed with a half ounce of water. Also massage their butt cheeks. I know it sounds weird but it worked for me. If that all fails I would call the doctor.
if your doctors being a dink you can bring the lil baby to the hospital their are infant massages that I learned about that are suposta help but its mostly for gas where you rub their belly down on the right hand side in a straight line then like an upside down L then like an upside down you its suposta b I love you thing or whatever its good if they need to fart
Both of my sons where constipated as infants. They are now 9 and 5. My peditrician told me to use dark karo syrup, put 1 teaspoon in each bottle. Also I would sneak in a water bottle w/ a tsp. of dark Karo at some point thru out the day. The dark karo syrup softens the stool this way it is easier to pass. Babies could become dependant on the supositories - I would not recomend using them.
Prune juice is also good - although it made my second son gassy.
Both of my boys were on the Karo until they switched to cows milk. Hope this helps you! Good Luck.
I used to work at a pharmacy, but not in the pharmacy area; just the store. anyway, there are some laxatives out there for toddlers, but I'm not sure if they are recommended for infants/newborns. my suggestion is to go to your local pharmacy, and ask your pharmacist about these (especially if you doctor is not calling you back :O ) hope they are helpful and I hope this was helpful. hope she gets better.
