Computer problem

I have a dell pc. and my husband has one in another room. we have hooked up a router but it seems to take forever for his pc to activate/ also my pc runs extremely slow. have dsl from verison. but almost as fast as dial up was. would appreciate any help in this matter.

Your bandwidth is being limited by something. Half the time the problem is hardware the other half would be software.

First determine the actual strength of your connection by running a PC directly from your DSL modem and doing a quick surf. If you are using wireless cards make sure that the signal is strong enough.

Check your Task Manager's performance tab to make sure that there is not a lot of system resources eaten up by running the wireless device.

Scan both computer's for adware/malware and malicious trojans that could be sharing your current bandwidth. Use Adaware and Spybot in conjunction to solve 90% of these problems.

Consider a direct corded connection by one PC and a wireless connection on any others. This configuration seemed to aid in the network node hierarchy to enable the corded connection as a pseudo server and sped up my connections to all three areas I had.

Test the router and/or hub within a single pc direct connection for hardware failures.

There are tons of possible others, but I hope these help.
