Coffee addiction, how long to get it out of your system?

Asked by ireallyneedhelp 3 months ago, 4 answers.

I'm trying to give up the old coffee but finding it hard as I'm hooked on the high it gives me but then I get the slump soon after and find I have absoloutly no energy to do anything. I was just wondering how long does it take for the coffee to be completely out of your syste? The longest I've been without it is 3 days but I still suffer from the lethargy from having coffe even then. Also, does having too much coffee slow down your metabolism as I've noticed I've had to eat a lot less than I used to otherwise I easily put on the pounds. I'm only 23 and I'm not under nor overweight

ALSO IF YOU ARE PUTTING LOTS OF SUGAR IN YOUR COFFEE YOU COULD BE HAVING A SUGAR CRASH. ABOUT 2 HRS LATER..

I found that it takes around a week to get past the headaches from quitting coffee. You could lessen this by drinking green tea for a week then quitting. This will give your body more of a gradual diminishing of the drugs in your system.

The excess sugar and cream in the coffee very well might be your 'calorie' issue you are noticing, but this could also be simply from lack of exercise. When I hit 23 I still had an insane metabolism, but my friends all seemed to put on weight a lot easier than when we were younger. I found out that it was the cigarettes that had kept me so skinny, even while they destroyed my poor teeth, lungs, and wherever the carcinogens decided to wreak havoc on my body. Anything in excess is a bad thing. There is such thing as 'too much of a good thing'.

I got off coffee with a long slow taper. I kept cutting back little by little until I was down to 1 mug of coffee than after a few months I quit that. I never had a widthdrawl headache the whole time so I really think this is the best way.

After a couple of years I started drinking coffee again. I looove the taste of coffee. I don't drink nearly as much as I used to. Usually just a mug or two a day.

I can relate to you sooo much. I was averaging three ice coffees a day, which is really bad. I havee always been driking coffee since I can remember. I stopped for a month, I use to get headaches, but I cut down to one ice then one small hot then I stopped for a while and tried tea or sumthing else for the caffine. Your body is literally addicted to what is in the coffee besides the caffine because you could drink anythin with caffine in it to get the same effect..right? Noo, its a little different because it wouldnt be the same as drinking coffee . Otherwise people would just take redbulls or other caffine drinks to get off the coffee.
ANd my status about coffee right now is like 2 a day lol I love coffee, I eat really healthy so I call it my 'break'
