I understand that chlamydia can cause infertility if left untreated, but approximately how long are we talking about and are any tests to find out?

Hi croydon,

It is very difficult to answer the question about how long it would take for a woman to not be able to have kids. Women who have chlamydia only infecting the cervix, where it does not go up and actually infect the fallopian tubes, will probably maintain pretty normal fertility rates. On the other hand, repeated episodes of fallopian tube infection with either chlamydia or gonorrhea increase a woman's risk of infertility due to tubal blockage and scarring.

Certainly, the longer someone might carry undetected and untreated chlamydia, the higher her risk for infertility or problems would be.

Are you asking if there is a test to find out if you have chlamydia or infertility? There are tests for both. You should see your gynecologist immediately if you're suspecting that you carry the disease.

Good luck!!!

It depends on how long you have had it before being diagnosed. If you've been infected for a number of years, Chamydia may havve scarred your fallopian tubes to the point of infertility. You can go the health department and get a pap smear.
