How do I clear my search engine memory?

Like for example, when I type 'a' into google search, all my other searches previously starting with an a pops out.

go to tools, clear private data, you need to clear your cookies.

(this is for mozilla)

For internet explorer

Go to tools, internet options and under the general tab where it says browsing history click on delete and delete the cookies
