It is not a sin to not sing in church. Singing is a part of worship, but not in all churches. Don't worry about your cousin he is just trying to make you feel bad.

You will sing when you are ready and God will welcome it. But until then Gods loves you just as you are. God also knows your heart not your stupid cousin.

No, it's certainly not a sin if you don't sing outwardly, you could be praising inwardly - however, it certainly pleases our Lord when we sing praises to Him - many verses, here's a few:

Psa 7:17 I will praise the LORD according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the LORD most high.

Psa 9:2 I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High.

Psa 9:11 Sing praises to the LORD, which dwelleth in Zion: declare among the people his doings.

Psa 21:13 Be thou exalted, LORD, in thine own strength: so will we sing and praise thy power.

Psa 18:49 Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and sing praises unto thy name.

Psa 27:6 And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.

Psa 28:7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.

I would think that on the sin-o-meter, judging others would rank higher than not singing.

That is not a sin and you will NOT go to hell for that.

there is a scripture in the book of mormon that I love that describes the hymns as prayers. to paraphrase, t says something like 'the song of the righteous is a prayer unto me and it shall be answered with a blessing upon their heads'. so while you won't be punnished for not singing, you will be blessed. so you have to ask yourself if it's worth it or not to open your mouth and sing so that you may recieve the blessings that your heavenly father has waiting for you or not.

when I was younger I didn't like to sing, but if you really read the words of the hymns, you will be filled with the spirit. they are amazing. and you shouldn't feel weird doing it. you're not there to show off your amazing voice. h.f. honestly just wants you to be humble and submissive. humble yourself and sing. don't worry about what people think.

'It's a sin not to sing hymns in church'? LOL, if that's the case there are tens of thousands of us off-key singers headed for hell. For all our sakes, ask your cousin to support that assertion by citing the chapter and verse from the Bible. (It's the ultimate authority on what Christians believe.)

When you come to the place where you can focus more on honoring God than worrying about what people think of you, your voice, your dress, you won't hesitate to make a 'joyful noise unto the Lord'. Even if your neighbors cringe it won't matter, because the Lord will love it.

Thank God He is more merciful than self righteous people so steeped in religion they make up more rules than Moses. PHEW!

It's far from being a sin, where in the Bible does it say 'You must sing in church or else'? I mean I'm catholic for heavens sake and I never sing. You find your own way of praising God, and that isn't always singing.

Well, your cousin is nuts for saying that if you don't sing in church that its a sin.
I never heard such a statement like that before and I don't think it mentions anywhere in the bible at all.
