We're having a similar issue with ours, the trunk seems very dried out. I suspect there are two issues at play with ours perhaps yours. One is that the plant might not get enough nutrients, and the other is that the air may be two dry. Hopefully, adding a humidifier will help our tree, and it might help yours as well.

Chinese money tree
I have had my tree for about a year. It is about 3 feet tall. Recently the leaves are turning yellow and then brown and falling off. The tree seems limp.It still appears to be geting new growth but just looks very unhealthy. I water it every 14 days and...
let it dry in between. Don't really know what is going on.
