Chicken unfrozen then refrozen

flower Asked by zorbot over 3 years ago, 2 answers.

I bought two chicken legs froze them and then thawed them out in my fridge but didn't have time to cook them and was leaving for the weekend so I through them back into the freezer. I've heard that once you've frozen chicken then unfrozen it, you...

shouldn't refreeze it to unfreeze it again because this can make you sick even if you cook it well. Is this true? What's the facts? I really want my chicken legs.

Don't worry, that must be another useless myth. There's no reason why the legs would turn bad from re-freezing the way you described it, unless you leave them out of the fridge for several days or something... but even then good cooking should kill whatever starts growing on them. At the very worst they may not be as tender. So yeah, eat up and enjoy! happy

Sometimes you can tell when it's been refrozen, because it has that taste to it.
