Cheap flight ticket close to christmas day?

I want to go visit friends and buy a plane ticket to leave the day before Christmas. I want to go on the 23rd from San Francisco to Baltimore Washington International. When is the best time to buy a ticket? And where should I get this almost last minute plane ticket from? Are there any places that might offer special deals?

Go to a travel agent. My fiance and I went to one one month ago to get tiks to vegas on the 19 of dec. The whole package(phat ass room, &2 round trip tickets) was $1100.
