Cervical cancer?

Marilyn Asked by factorygirl over 2 years ago, 4 answers.

Hey, does anybody know anything about this new HPV (or human papillomavirus) vaccine? I here it helps prevent cervical cancer, but their still doing studies with it…

The only reason I ask is because my mom really wants me to get the shot, but I’m kind...

of nervous. Its sooo band new and I don’t know the long term effects! I’m afraid I might end up with cervical abnormalities, lesions, or even something worse… so if anybody knows anything about HPV, or has even had the shot personally, please write back! Thank you!

Factory Girl
There is a shot for HPV, however it is still fairly new and I would suggest speaking to your doctor or go talk to someone at a clinic. They will go over the pro's and con's about this shot. I had cervical cancer over 19 yrs ago and beat it, however now that my daughter is 23 and has had a kidney transplant they felt she was to high risk due to the fact its still a fairly new injection.

Hope this helps

This shot isn't a cure for HPV, and from what I've heard, it doesnt even have that high a % of success rate in prevention. It hyas many harmful side effects, and has not been approved in a few countries by the FDA.

THE ONLY REASON I WOULD SUGGEST THE VACCINE IS IF ONE OF YOUR PAPSMEARS CAME WITH SOME ABNORMALITIES OR SOMETHING WHICH THE DOCTOR WILL LET U KNOW IF U SHOULD GET IT... HOWEVER, I INTERNED AT A PEDIATRICIANS OFFFICE AND SOME DRUG REPS CAME AND TALKED TO US ABOUT THE VACCINE AND REALLY RECOMEMENDED IT FOR YOUNG GIRLS WHO HAVEN T OR ALREADY SATRTED BEING SEXUALLY ACTIVE... AGAIN IT IS UP TO THE DOCTOR.. PARENTS... AND OF COURSE U
