ok im from Ireland, if I was phone someone in america what wud the code before it be? I cant just CALL them I need a code anybody know what it is? all answers wud be deeply appreciated.

I have skype on my computer now, and have an inexpensive headphone and mike combination, and through my computer I can call a telephone in Ireland for 1.7 cents a minute - $1.02 USD per hour. And if I am calling to a computer anywhere in the world that has internet, it's free. I do have broadband connection, and that may make a difference. You will have to check.

Incidentally, Mass. has 9 area codes and Calif. has 26. You will have to google the city you are trying to call.
For regular phone service from Ireland to the US is
00 + 1 + area code + phone number

Skype is probably the best computer to computer call programs and is absolutely free for that. So if both you and your friend have computers, broadband and skype then you can talk for free.

Otherwise you can purchase minutes for skype that allow you to call phones. You'll have to check the rates.
