Cause of rust and how to get rid of it?

Why does stuff get rusty and is there a way to remove rust?

I have used Never Dull on my Motorcycle to remove rust. I got it at a shop like PepBoys. Or Car Quest. What are you trying to remove rust from? And good ol Coca Cola works also.

Well I think the only way to get that out is to sandpaper then putty and sandpaper then repaint.

Rust is just a form of corrosion. Usually applies to metals containing iron or steel.

It's caused by just being exposed to the elements. Rain, wind, sun, etc...

You can use rust removers and, as with the above, Coca-Cola works wonders (for reason unknown to me. If it eats rust, kinda makes you afraid to drink it, eh? lol). Coca-Cola works best on battery terminals. Eats the acid, too. Scary.

Being a Corrosion Control certified expert (school pays off) I can tell you the only true way to get rid of rust and prevent its return is to grind it away and protect the area with paint or some other means to cover the area and protect it from the elements.
