Cat shedding a lot

My cat's suddenly started shedding a lot. Could it be like fleas or something like that? Or is it just summer (although she doesnt go outside so I dont see why that would make a difference). Has anyone tried any particular foods that help? She wont take vitamins or those treat things... I wash her every week and brush her, but it's getting ridiculous!

A girl that I met here told me that you can go to your vet and they can give you a pill to give to her to make her not shed as much. If you just take your hand and pet my cat you end up with a whole hand full of friggin hair. I am going to check out the pill myself this weekend!

when I givemy cat his vits I put him on my lap so his backs facing me, put your thumb and forefinger on each side of his mouth and kind of wedge his mouth open, he will start to lick and stick his tounge out. when he does that lierally drop the tablet onto the back of his tounge and close his mouth. he will swallow it, my cat keeps getting in fights and I feel like I am constantly giving him antibiotics! and thats how the vert showed me to do it, it's completly painless and he won't choke, but if you don't drop it far enough back he will spit it out.

and I know what you mean about shedding, I'm in britain and it's warm lately, and everytime one of my cats sit on me, boom - I'm covered! it's a nightmare!!

I tried to attach a picture of my cats it's not here?

You wash her every week? Like...bathing her? Cats spend 80% of their time grooming themselves. You really don't need to give them a bath, especially indoor cats. (Unless they are sick/old and not grooming themselves anymore).

If you do wash her every week like a bath, it could be a cause for the shedding. Overwashing could strip her fur of natural oils, and/or make her groom more to dry off, causing the shedding.

Yeah I give her a bath with baby shampoo, the vet said it was fine (she sometimes has stuff on her backside) but now she's just randomly shedding...

Hmm do you just wash her butt or her whole body? I would really advise against such frequent baths.

But anyhoot, is she eating normally? What brand of food? It could be a nutritional change but if that is all normal, it could just be the heat. It's 85 inside my house right now, with the air on...sigh.

I agree with dara, the baths every week might be leading to the shedding. it also could be the heat. I think that I am shedding also...
if it continues, you might get a blood profile...hypothyroidism is rare in cats but that might be a cause. that is what I usually think of first in dogs when they start to look bald from shedding...

no baldness, she still has plenty of fur! it's like no matter how much she sheds there's still more growing! yeah I thot it might be the heat, it's been getting worse as summer got worse...

Quit bathing her so much and start brushing her...a slicker brush will get to the undercoat, and sleek the harder fur on top...PLUS, brushing slows down fur balls...

Too much bathing for any animal drys out the skin, and eventually the fur gets less healthy.

This may sound odd but you can get your cat shaved at the groomer. Keep her shaved thru the summer and once winter sets in let her fur grow back. Cats don't shed as much during the winter months. Good Luck!
