Cat injury

Healthy chigar:) Asked by dan01ielle about 1 year ago, 6 answers.

Damn I already did this and it didn't post. So here's the short version. I love my cats, on of them got into something and hurt his head. He is acting normal, eating and drinking. I can touch his face and he doesn't flinch, but I didn't press hard. He...

had some scrapes and one wound right by his eye, none big enough to cause concern: I put peroxide and kitty solution on it, it fizzed and looks much better now. But his head is swollen like a freakin bull terrier. Well, it's not that big, but noticeable. There is no concusion (sp?). Could it be a muscle? Or is it definately an abscess? Do those heal on their own? I was told (by my dad-who I'll defy if necassary) that I shouldn't take him to the vet. So what should I watch for and what could I do to ease swelling? Ice? Like I said he doesn't seem to be in pain or I would be at the vet's now.

The best way to know for sure would be to take him on a visit to the vet.

sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

It sounds like an abscess, which my cat gets a lot from fighting with my other cat. Those crazy pets.

Leaving it will cause it to get more infected, hot, and swell up more. The vet can drain it and give an antibiotic. I'd suggest the vet =)

If it is an abscess it will burst open. I would see a vet, they can shave to wounded area, clean it up and if it needs drains they would suture them in. Or just some antibiotics may do.

Ditto to harleyrider...abscess...(and ditto to getting him antibiotics...they can be awfully painful, so the quicker he's over it, the better off he'll be)...He must have gotting in a fight...cats get abscess often...

if its real noticable its probly brain swellledge (as in its brain has swollen) but if he isnt in much pain then im not quite sure you just have to keep a real close eye on him and if he is acting just a little bit weird then take him to the vet. (it could be real serious but then again it just be the musscels streached(I highly dout it))

I was a nervous wreck and I thought everything he did was strange. I thought it was infected and it would spread to his brain making him crazy. LMAO...I took him to the vet that day and they gave him antibiotics. Phranni, if I had known that maybe I wouldn't have rushed him in the same day. But either way, he's doing better. He can open his eyes and he doesn't seem to be experiencing pain from the meds. I've never seen a cat take pills so nicelyhappy Thanks for the responses.
