Caring for a tattoo

golden retriever puppy Asked by qtpi3 7 months ago, 2 answers.

I just got a tattoo on April 17/09. It's located on the back of my leg right below my knee. My tattoo artist covered it with plastic wrap and I left it on there for roughly four hours because I wasn't in a location where I could clean it. When I got home...

I removed the plastic.. and cleaned it how he told me to. I soaked a cloth in hot water, rang it out, and dabbed it on my tattoo. Then I rinsed the cloth in cold water, rang it out, and dabbed it on my tattoo. Then dried it. My tattoo artist told me not to get it wet, period! So when I take a shower I cover it with plastic wrap. He told me not to put anything on it (lotions, creams, etc.) for two days. Soo I got Curel today. He told me only to put a tiny amount on my tatty. And only do it once a day, if needed. I've been reading up on some info about how to care for tattoos and they recommend using non scented Curel. Why? I bought the original... is that going to wreak my tattoo?

But I am starting to get concerned. I want my tattoo to look good when it's healed. So far I have no scabbing but it is extremely dry and I can feel my skin pull when I walk.. or stand up. Also, a new tattoo is pretty much an open wound isn't it? So wouldn't I have to keep it clean so it wont get infected? So far I haven't cleaned it since I removed the plastic wrap. I've noticed a little bit of busing around it... is that normal? Also the ink sticks up out of my skin... will this go down? And because it's so dry it isn't smooth and looks a little bit like tomato skin which is something my tattoo artist said would happen if I used to much lotion. I'm not to sure if he knows what he's talking about anymore. I watched a video and the tattoo artist said to lotion it every hour.. or anytime it feels dry. Also.. it's okay to put it in water as long as I don't submerge it in.

I am REALLY confused and I need some help
Please someone...

every tatto artist is differant and does things differant. I recommend cleaning with an anti batcerial hand soap daily. in the shower or out. and to use lubraderm non sented lotion 3 times daily. no sun. tanning, or swimming for 8 weeks. do not cover the tatto with anything.

i want to remember us, just as we are now... <3 Answered by paige_marie09 on Apr 20, 2009, 04:42PM
